Google.com Main Page = PageRank 0 ?!?
July 19th, 2006
As most of you know, Google’s PageRank is a measure of the importance of the page. It’s a family of algorithms for assigning numerical weightings to hyperlinked documents (or web pages) indexed by a search engine. Its properties are much discussed by search engine optimization (SEO) experts. The PageRank system is used by Google to help determine a page’s relevance or importance. It was developed by Google’s founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin while at Stanford University in 1998.
Anyhow, today I made couple of screenshots where Google Toolbar is showing PageRank 0 for most of their pages.
Is it all messed up? This must be some temporary glitch I guess, otherwise I can’t imagine why would they be assigning themselfs such a low PageRank.
But even if it’s a glitch, how would their algorithm calculate the importance of Google’s main page to be 0? :)
If all of the pages had 0 PageRank I would think, the whole system is down. But some pages are showing PageRank 1 or 2…
Anyhow, here are the screenshots:
